Many people view breakdown insurance as unnecessary and expensive as they prefer to take the risk, but I am firmly of the opinion that for a small amount each week, I can drive as far as I want and anywhere I want without having to worry what will happen and who will pay if I break down.
As with all insurance it is about peace of mind and I want to be able to tootle up to Scotland for the day without worrying about the battery going flat and having to call in The Battery Guys or to be able to head to France for the weekend without giving a second thought as to whether it will conk out half way.
In reality, I have only ever had to call in the breakdown service twice, but both times it would have cost me considerably more if I had not been insured.
And for both those times there have been a hundred more times when I was a little worried about this noise or that in the car but pushed on in full confidence of having breakdown insurance.
Of course, having breakdown insurance is no excuse for going out on the roads in an ill maintained car but it sure helps to have it as a backup in case the love of my life does give up the ghost mid way on the motorway.
